INTRODUCTION: My name is Ulla Karlström. I´m borne in Finland 1957, and I live in Sweden since 1978. Art in its various forms has always had a place in my hearth and life. In my profession as a preschool teacher, it has been important to work so that all children have access to different aesthetic forms of expression. Being able to formulate and develop one's thoughts by drawing, painting and modeling enables a richer communication than that where only words exist. Photography was my first more serious way of portraying and creating myself. I wanted to capture emotions, movement and patterns. The next step was to digitally redo the images. reshape, merge and create new 'worlds' and landscapes through this digital 'photo painting'. I paint most often intuitively so that the feeling or context that wants to show itself becomes visible :-): movement, different perspectives, phenomena that occur simultaneously in different dimensions- the micro-macro world in parallel. My daughter described my work in words: "What I see, the space between dream and reality". I am curious and allow myself to try these expressions freely. During these pandemic years, and now for the last few years have been enchanted by the magic of acrylic paints. I also combine my photo painting with acrylic painting and create a lot of "layer on layer”.
